Hi everyone! I am trying to create a strong team, and have sought the input of both Google and a few friends who are veteran Trainers. So far I have narrowed it down to Tentacruel (my ride or die), Garchomp, Ninetales, Rhyperior, and Lilligant. I'm saving the final spot for a Fearow; a friend of mine is soon to gift me with one. I know people build different teams with different roles and strategies, and of course different Pokemon. I don't know if there is really a wrong or right way of building a team, so long as it works effectively for the Trainer. In any case, I'm looking for input and advice in the form of polite suggestions (please) and am down to battle. I'll update my sig with my FC if anyone is interested in battling. Thanks

Good question! There are many ways to build a team competitively, and just like pokemon typing, there are strengths and weaknesses to both. I, personally, prefer more of a defensively balanced or stall team. When building defensively balanced team, I go with something similar to the following: 2 'Wall' Pokemon, both being bulky. I make one a special defensive wall, and the other a physically defensive wall. 2 Sweepers, again a special attacker and physical attacker. I count "sweepers" different than attackers. A sweeper uses a move to boost it's stats. For example, my Gyarados uses Dragon Dance to raise it's attack and speed. Once it is raised once, my opponent is in trouble. If twice, then I'm most likely going to win. Finished off, I fill my team with pokemon that cover any weaknesses I might have. I attempt to get a hazard setter; however, hazard removal is my priority. Followed by a supportive Pokemon. It is important to play test your 'core' team, and use these final two slots to compliment it. I hope this helps. There are many team styles (hyper offensive to super stall) and you just have to find the type that best suits you.

Thank you MadZak. I appreciate your advice. That is roughly how I'm attempting to set up my team. I have a physical Wall for my Rhyperior, my special Wall for my Tentacruel, my support in my Lilligant and my Physical Sweeeper in my Garchomp. Still working out the kinks though. lol
